Function of Prepositional Phrases Examples

Function of Prepositional Phrases

Remember that a preposition is a word that expresses a relationship between a noun or a pronoun and another word in the sentence. The noun or pronoun is called the object of the preposition, and it can be related to another noun or pronoun in the sentence, or to a verb. The preposition, its object, and any modifiers make up the prepositional phrase.

Prepositional phrases most often function as adjectives or adverbs. Remember that an adjective modifies a noun or pronoun and gives more information about it-which one, what kind, how many. Remember that an adverb modifies a verb, and adjective, or another adverb; and it tells when, where, why, how, under what condition, to what extent.
