Anecdote

An anecdote is a short, sometimes amusing, story that is told to make a point. The idea is that these short stories, or anecdotes, will engage the audience and encourage them to think more deeply about the topic.

Examples of Anecdote:

A politician who is arguing for a different type of healthcare program includes an anecdote about a little girl who was not able to have a transplant due to insurance.

A preacher who talks about how God changes people includes an anecdote about how sweet potatoes will regenerate even when cut in half.

In a presentation to high school students about the dangers of drinking and driving, a policeman provides an anecdote about a student who was seriously injured after driving intoxicated.

When talking to her children about the dangers of running in the house, a mother includes an anecdote about falling in her own home as a little girl and breaking her arm.

While trying to pump up his team before the big game, the coach includes an anecdote about a team that went from last place to first place just because they played hard and believed they could do it.
