Alan Rickman was an English actor and director who became very well-known after playing Hans Gruber in Die Hard. He was born Alan Sidney Patrick Rickman on February 21st, 1946, in Hammersmith, West London, to Margaret Doreen Rose and Bernard William Rickman. Alan attended school in London, and eventually became involved in drama. He attended Chelsea College of Art and Design and the Royal College of Art. He opened a graphic design studio with friends but after three years decided to pursue acting as a career. He attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and later began working with the Royal Shakespeare Company. Alan received a Tony Award in 1987 for his role in Les Liaisons Dangereuses.
