Snapchat is an app that allows users to send image messages. It was created by Reggie Brown, Bobby Murphy, and Evan Spiegel, and developed by Snapchat Inc. Snapchat's main concept is that pictures and messages are only visible for a limited time, and are hen no longer accessible. Snapchat was originally released in 2011 only for the iOS but was released a few months later as an app called Snapchat. The app was originally for person-to-person sharing, but additional features were added to allow for short videos, video chat, and the ability to save chats. The My Story feature was added in 2013. Further features include Our Story, Memories, Geostickers, Official Stories, and World Stickers.

The inspiration for Snapchat was born when a friend of Murphy and Spiegel reportedly regretted having sent a photo to someone. The friend was Brown. He was later removed from the group by Murphy and Spiegel.
When the creators of Snapchat revealed their idea to their classmates at Stanford University most of their classmates didn't think it was a good idea.
Snapchat was originally names Picaboo. It was later rebranded when it was added to Google Play.
Approximately 166 million users use Snapchat every day.
Approximately 301 million people use Snapchat at least once a month.
The average number of Snapchats sent each day is 3 billion.
Approximately 43% of Snapchat users are in North America.
There are roughly 9,000 images sent via Snapchat each minute.
