Following the end of the World Wars it had become apparent to everyone that the world was now connected on a scale never seen before, this is especially the case in terms of economic connections and markets. While the United States and its allies sought to implement free and open markets, the Soviet Union worked to maintain its economic authority within its own sphere. As a result we see an economy that both benefits and threatens all contributors on a pretty even keel. It is true that the United States benefits greatly from the new economic machine; however, other nations regardless of size and status were also able to influence the global markets and economies.
