The Poet X Important Characters
Xiomara Batsita - protagonist and titular character, X, which refers to the stage name she would give herself. Xiomara lives with her family and struggles with her mother's zeal for religion and her own desire to write poetry.
Altagracia Batista - Xiomara's mother wanted to become a nun until her family encouraged her to marry and move to America with Xiomara's Papi.
Papi - Xiomara's father was with many women before Xiomara was born and he settled down but never really participated much in the family.
Xavier Batista - Xiomara's twin brother who is so smart, he is a junior while X is still a sophomore, and he attends a different school. He comes out as gay to Xiomara after his boyfriend Cody breaks up with him.
Caridad - Xiomara and Xavier's best friend who tries to help Xiomara through her break up with Aman and encourage her to perform her poetry.
Aman - Xiomara's lab partner whom she begins dating until she gets in trouble with her mom. They reunite after she runs away from home.
Ms. Galiano - Xiomara's English teacher who encourages her to join the Poetry Club and perform at the Poetry Slam.
Father Sean - the Catholic priest who leads the confirmation class and tries to help Xiomara navigate her questions about faith and her controlling mother.
Isabelle - a girl in the Poetry Club who eats lunch with Xiomara and gives her feedback on her poems
