Description

Military conquests during the Postclassical and Early Medieval periods are like those of any other age of expansion and development. Though spread across the Middle Ages invasions were experienced on all fronts of the globe including territories in Western Europe and the Byzantine Empire. Military leaders were able to secure political power through conquest and as a result propelled ruling dynasties, such as the Carolingians into great seats of power, while at the same time disrupting coastal communities and settlements by means of Norse invaders.
