1995 | Governor of Texas Bush served two four-year terms as Texas governor. He was known for his work in education reform as well as his efforts in helping the needy. |
2001 | President! The presidential election of 2001 was a close call, with the votes in Florida being recounted three separate times. He began his presidency with high hopes and noble goals. |
September 2001 | Terrorist Attacks On September 11, 2001, only eight months into President Bush's first term, terrorists attacked the country. Planes were flown into the World Trade Centers, the Pentagon, and a field in Pennsylvania, and President Bush became a war time president. |
2002 | No Child Left Behind No Child Left Behind was signed into law as a means of advancing the public education program. However, it was met with heavy criticism and was eventually proven impossible to comply with. |
2003 | War in Iraq When it appeared the country of Iraq had nuclear weapons, President Bush invaded the country to find them. However, many people disagreed with this move, and it was later found that Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction. |
2005 | A second presidential win Though many in the country disagreed with the ongoing war in Iraq, President Bush secured his second term in 2004. His second term got off to a rocky start, though, with Hurricane Katrina hitting New Orleans in 2005. |
May 2005 | Assassination attempt While visiting the country of Georgia, President Bush was targeted by a native Georgian. A grenade was thrown, but it failed to go off and President Bush was safe. |
September 2005 | Hurricane Katrina Hurricane Katrina hit Louisiana and Mississippi, as well as neighboring states, in August 2005. President Bush was heavily criticized for his poor handling of the natural disaster, including the length of time it took for him to send aid. |
2010 | Bush releases his memoirs After leaving office, President Bush and his wife returned to Texas where Bush began work on his memoirs. Decision Points was the memoir written by President Bush and released in 2010. |
2013 | George W. Bush Presidential Center The George W. Bush Presidential Center houses the former president's presidential library and papers. It is also the home of the George W. Bush Foundation. |
