Thesis Examples
A thesis is the main idea or argument presented in an essay. In other words, the thesis tells the reader what the essay is about. A thesis should state, in a sentence, your main argument about the subject.
For most beginning writers, it is a good idea to list your main points as part of your thesis. You may hear this referred to as a three-pronged thesis. Some examples are below.
Students should wear uniforms to school.
Reality television is leading to a generation of people focused only on themselves.
Romeo is a good example of a tragic hero.
Example Three-Pronged Thesis Statements:
Students should wear uniforms to school because they are less expensive than other clothing, they will decrease issues related to dress code, and they will improve school culture.
Reality television is leading to a generation fo people focused only on themselves, as evidenced by the rise of social media, memes, and selfies.
Romeo is a good example of a tragic hero because he has high stature, embodies virtue, and has a tragic flaw.
