Redox Reaction

A redox reaction is a shortened way of saying oxidation-reduction reaction. This type of chemical reaction involves the transfer of electrons between the molecules involved. The oxidation part of the reaction involves the accepting of electrons and the reduction part of the reaction involves the donating of electrons. These reactions occur everywhere and are an important part of our physical world.

Examples of Redox Reaction:

1. Cellular respiration

2. The formation of rust or corrosion of iron.

3. Zinc metal place in hydrochloric acid for the formation of hydrogen gas.

4. A combustion reaction involving the burning of gasoline in oxygen.

5. Zinc and manganese dioxide in a battery react to produce electricity.
