James Dean Facts
James Dean was an American actor who is best known for his role in the 1955 movie Rebel Without a Cause. He was born James Byron Dean on February 8th, 1931 in Marion, Indiana, to Winton Dean and Mildred Marie Wilson. His family moved to Santa Monica, California when he was young. His mother died of cancer when he was nine and his father sent him to live with relatives in Indiana. After graduating from high school James Dean moved back to California and attended college for theater. He landed a few roles and moved to New York City in 1951. He died in a car accident when his acting career was reaching Oscar status, at the age of 24.

James Dean had said he didn't expect to live past 30. He was racing cars professionally when he wasn't acting.
James Dean was a champion pole vaulter when he was a teenager in high school.
James Dean starred in his first Broadway show See the Jaguar in 1952, but it closed after 6 days.
