Morgan Freeman is an American actor and producer and often featured as a narrator of various projects. He was born on June 1st, 1937, in Memphis, Tennessee to Mayme Edna and Morgan Porterfield Freeman. Morgan has three older siblings and was sent when he was an infant to live with his paternal grandmother in Charleston. He moved frequently as a child and when he was 16 almost died of pneumonia. His acting debut was in a school play when he was nine. At the age of 12 he won a statewide drama contest. He performed on radio while attending school at 16. He joined the United States Air Force instead of accepting a partial drama scholarship to university. He took acting lessons in L.A. after serving four years in the military. The first credited film appearance was in Who Says I Can't Ride a Rainbow, in 1971.
