Boxer is medium-sized dog that belongs to the Molosser group. It was created during the 19th century in Germany by mixing now extinct type of Mastiff (breed called Bullenbeisser) with English Bulldog. Boxer was initially used for fights with other dogs and for hunting. Boxer is rarely used as a working dog today, but it is very popular as a house pet.

Boxer can reach 21 to 25 inches in height and 55 to 70 pounds of weight.
Boxer has short-hair, smooth fur that can be light yellowish, brindle (tan-colored fur with black stripes) or white-colored. Some types of boxer can be very dark brindle, but they are never completely black. White boxer is any boxer with 75% of the body covered with white fur.
Boxer has broad, short skull, floppy ears, big lips and wrinkled face. It has stocky body and long tail. Boxer is best known for its square-shaped jaws and well developed lower jaw which protrudes beyond the upper jaw.
Name "boxer" refers to the habit of this dog to erect its body on the hind feet and use its front paws for "boxing".
Boxer named Brandy had 17-inches-long tongue which holds the record as the longest, ever recorded tongue in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Boxer can reach the speed of 30 miles per hour. Thanks to its athletic body and ability to easily learn new things, it was often used in the circuses in the past and as a messenger during the war.
Boxer is playful, cheerful, friendly, loyal and gentle dog that is always eager to please its owners. It is suitable for houses with small kids and other pets. Boxer shows aggression toward other boxers of the same gender.
Boxer requires at least 2 hours of exercise per day to remain healthy.
Boxer has very strong bite, but it is not aggressive by nature and does not pose threat to humans and other animals. Its powerful jaws are inherited from Bullenbeisser, which was used for hunting of wild boars and deer.
Boxer is often used as guard dog because it is alert, brave and fearless by nature.
Boxer is ranked as 7th most popular dog in the USA. Celebrities such as Alec Baldwin, George Clooney, Jodie Foster, Sylvester Stallone and Justin Timberlake are proud owners of boxer.
Boxer drools a lot. It belongs to a group of moderate shedders, but its grooming does not require too much time and effort.
Boxer gives birth to 6 to 8 puppies on average. Young boxers reach maturity at the age of 3 years.
Boxer is prone to cardiac (Boxer cardiomyopathy), bone and skin disorders. White Boxers are often deaf and prone to skin cancer.
Boxer has an average lifespan of 9 to 10 years.
