Arthritis Facts
Arthritis is a type of disorder that affects the joints causing joint stiffness and pain, which tends to get worse with age. The term arthritis actually refers to approximately 120 various diseases that negatively affect the muscles, joints, and soft tissues of the human body. The word arthritis is derived from Greek words meaning joint (arthro), and inflammation (itis). The most common forms of arthritis include rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, and treatment can include pain medication, weight loss to reduce pressure on the joints, alternating heat and ice, and sometimes joint replacement. Not all joint pain is caused by primary arthritis, as it can also be a symptom of another disease in some cases.
