Hills Like White Elephants Important Characters

The American Man - arrives with Jig at a train station in Spain where they have an important conversation about whether or not she should have an abortion. He drinks beer and tries to convince her that their lives will be better if she gets rid of the baby.

Jig - travels with the American man and drinks with him while waiting for their train. She seems to be questioning whether she should get an abortion. It seems she wants him to support her decision to keep the baby and change the lifestyle that they live, but since he is unwilling to do so, she sides with him and agrees to have the abortion.
