Linear Equations: Solving Linear Equations by Multiplication or Division Quiz
Quiz Overview
Description
When solving equations for a particular variable, use the multiplication or division property of equality. The multiplication property means that adding the same number to both sides of an equation will produce an equivalent equation. X must be isolated.
Example:
x/7 = 3
(7)(x/7) = (7)(3) Multiply both sides by 7
x = 21
The division property means that dividing the same number from both sides of an equation will produce an equivalent equation.
-5x = 20
(-5x/-5) = (20/-5) Divide both sides by -5
x = -4
For each of the following questions, solve for X. You will need a calculator and scratch paper. Select the best answer from the choices.
