The superiority and influence of the Roman Empire was put into place mainly through military successes and effective leadership following the acquisition of these new lands. The Roman military force was one of great discipline and effectiveness; however, these traditions echoed those of the Greek military forces. By means of a centralized military force Roman Emperors were able to expand and maintain a vast Empire, which experienced great periods of peace and prosperity coupled with small rebellions through out the Empire.
