The Roman military force was one of great discipline and effectiveness; however, these traditions echoed those of the Greek military forces. By means of a centralized military force Roman Emperors were able to expand and maintain a vast Empire, which experienced great periods of peace and prosperity coupled with small rebellions through out the Empire.
