Earthquakes are a sign that the plates which make up the Earth crust are active. An earthquake causes the ground and everything on it to shake. This includes bodies of water such as lakes or oceans, houses, piles of rock, and mud. The shaking can cause other events, such as floods, or fissures, which are cracks in the earth. There is no way to predict earthquakes. We can measure them when they occur.
